Children's Dentistry
Since 2014, we have been lucky to have access to the Children’s Dental Benefits Scheme (CDBS). This scheme offers eligible children $1000 to spend at the dentist over two years. The CDBS covers all standard dental services, such as checkups, x-rays, cleans, fillings, preventive fissure sealants and extractions.
Eligibility for CDBS
The Department of Human Services assesses the eligibility of your children. If you receive an Australian Government payment, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A or B or other benefit payments, your children may be eligible for care under the CDBS. You can check eligibility by calling the Department of Human Services or us. You will need to have your Medicare card handy.
Bulk Billing
We bulk-bill all children eligible for CDBS to keep the cost of children’s dental care affordable. As long as the $1000 limit isn't reached, there will be no out-of-pocket amount. We are provided with a Medicare schedule of fees that we follow when claiming children’s dental services. If you exceed the $1000 limit, we will give you a complete cost estimate before commencing any work. The fees for this extra treatment will be the same as those set out in Medicare's Fee Schedule.

The cost of a children’s dental check-up can vary depending on whether it is their first visit or a routine review.
At Northside Dental Solutions, we offer:
- New patient examination (including x-rays): $53
- Six-monthly examination: $45
- X-rays (if required): Free
Regular check-ups help monitor your child’s oral health, support healthy development, and allow early detection of any concerns.
The exact treatment recommended will depend on your child’s individual needs. Your dentist will assess their teeth and discuss any findings, along with any recommended care and costs.
Please note that not all children will require the same treatment, and outcomes can vary. Your dentist will provide guidance to help you make an informed decision about your child’s care.
A new patient examination for a child, including X-rays, is $53. For existing patients, a six-monthly examination is $45. X-rays are provided at no additional cost when clinically required.
A scale and clean is $90 for the first visit.
Fissure sealants are a protective coating applied to the grooves of back teeth. They are $50 per tooth and may be recommended to help reduce the risk of tooth decay.
Fillings for both front and back teeth are $275. The appropriate treatment will depend on your child’s individual clinical situation and will be discussed prior to proceeding.
A simple extraction is $219. This may be recommended if a tooth cannot be restored or is affecting surrounding teeth. All options will be discussed before treatment.
A stainless steel crown is $300. Your dentist will advise if this treatment is appropriate based on your child’s clinical needs, and all costs will be discussed prior to proceeding.
These treatments may be recommended when decay affects the inner part of the tooth:
- Pulp capping: $35
- Pulpotomy: $120
